He was then followed home in third place one shot further back, by Liam Gillespie playing off twenty one with a nett 70 two in front of fourth placed Dan McNulty. Open season underway at Bundoran

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Bundoran Golf Club staged its first open competition of the new season over four days last weekend, a men’s singles stableford event which was generously sponsored by Nan and Patricia Brennan of the Criterion Bar.

Attracting in excess of two hundred entries the overall winner was Dan McGloin, playing of a handicap of eighteen who was in excellent form to top the scoring with a magnificent score of 43 points. Solid golf throughout was Dan’s secret as he scored 22 front nine points prior to adding a further 21 on the back nine.

In the final analysis, Dan had a comfortable two point winning margin over runner up Luke Robinson who playing of twelve was also in fine form to secure the second place spoils with 41 points. Indeed Luke had a brilliant front nine which featured eight pars and one birdie as he turned in one under par with 25 points in the bag!

A further point adrift then on 40 points came seven handicapper Eugene Kelly, 21 of which came after a super level par back nine before he closed with 19 back nine points. In fourth place then came another Robinson, this time Luke’s younger brother Aaron, playing off twenty two with 37 points. Fortunately Aaron scored 20 of these on the back nine as he edged Pat Rooney (21) into fifth place on the break of tie after Pat also signed for a score of 37 points.

In the gross competition the best gross over the four day competition was the five over par round of three handicapper Adam Dunmore which yielded 31 points, while the next competition is an Open Weekend this on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March kindly sponsored by P. McCafferty and Sons Ltd in singles strokes format.
