R.N.L.I. Competition & Alfred McMorrow Cup

The R.N.L.I. charity competition took place on Saturday 20th March at Bundoran Golf Club, This was the first stroke competition of the new season and first place went to Eamon McGloin playing off sixteen with a nett score of 71. Eamon completed his front nine in 45 strokes prior to completing his back nine in 42 blows. This gave Eamon a one stroke winning margin over his nearest challenger John Keon  playing off sixteen who secured the runners up spot with a nett 72 on a break of tie from third placed, seventeen handicapper Aaron Robinson who also posted a nett 72.
The winner of the Alfred McMorrow Cup competition was John Cassidy playing off twenty with 37 points. John had 19 points on the front nine and 18 points on the back nine to win by one from second placed John Keon. Playing off sixteen, John carded 36 points, 17 on the front nine and 19 on the back nine. In third place was Fr. Munster also with 36 points. Fr. Munster had 18 points on the front nine with 18 on the back nine.

Next weeks competition is Easter Open on Sat, Sun & Mon 3rd, 4th, & 5th April it is a singles stroke competition kindly sponsored by Belleek Pottery. Please telephone the Pro Shop on 07198 41302 to book your tee time.

Tiger returns at Bundoran

Despite the rumours that he might wait for the Masters, the Tiger returned early to winning ways at Bundoran Golf Club last weekend, where Mark  (Tiger) Foley playing off eighteen, recorded an impressive winning score of  nett 63.
Out in a blistering 40 strokes, Tiger required just one more for the homeward nine, the undoubted highlight of which was a spectacular birdie three on the difficult tenth hole.
In the final analysis he had two strokes to spare over second placed Fr. Munster playing off thirteen who posted a nett 65 on a break of tie, after he covered each nine in 39 blows. However he was pushed all the ay by third placed was Brendan McCauley who playing off twelve also with a nett 65, just losing out on second place on countback. For his part,  Brendan opened with 38 strokes on the front nine and completed his back nine in just one more.
Fourth place then went to ten handicapper Nicky Corr with a nett 66 on a break of tie. Nicky opened his front nine with pars on the fourth, seventh and ninth holes sandwiching a birdie two on the third. His back nine was almost as consistent returning requiring 41 strokes. Fifth place went to Danny McLernon playing off fifteen also with a 66 nett, while best gross score came Michael Durcan playing off +2 who shot a scintillating gross 68.
On Saturday March 27th there is bingo in clubhouse with first game at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome. Next Sunday 28th March is the McMorrow Cup confined to members only. Please note check the web site on www.bundorangolfclub.com for special green fee offers.

EASTER BINGO ON SAT 27th MARCH

All members please note there will be a bingo night in the cub house on Saturday 27th March at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome, lots of prizes on the night.

The windy conditions on Saturday 27th Feb did not deter good scoring with Joe Keaney playing off sixteen shooting an excellent 63 nett. In second place also with a nett score of 63 was Michael Durcan playing off one. Michael Coleman playing off nineteen was third with a nett 66. Prizes for the weekend are vouchers, which are in the Pro Shop.

 

The stroke competition on Sunday saw the winner Brian Carr playing off nineteen with a nett 61. Second place went to Dan McGloin playing of nineteen with a nett 65. Pat Rooney took third place with a nett 66 and fourth place went to Nicky Corr playing off eleven with a nett 67 on a break of tie.

 

Next Sunday March 7th is the Captain’s Drive In and there is a shotgun start; teams of three scramble at 1.30pm. The sheet for names is available in the Pro Shop. The prize giving and refreshments will be immediately afterwards. Thanks to everyone who supported the night at the races on Friday night 26th Feb.
