One of the North West’s brilliant young golfers, Matthew Dunmore, was in scintillating form on his local Bundoran Links last weekend where he shot a brilliant three under par gross round of 67 strokes!
Contesting the Mack’s Amusements Bank Holiday medal event, two handicapper Matthew opened with quite a cautious level par front nine where the only variances from par figures were a birdie four on the fourth immediately followed by a bogey on five.
However the gentle giant then roared into top form on the back nine with four birdies, these coming on the twelfth, sixteenth, seventeenth AND eighteenth holes to come home in a majestic three under par 32! Netting back to 65, Matthew had one stroke to spare over runner up Adrian McFadden who concocted a nett 66 mainly due to a an opening nine of two over par 37 as he required 42 blows for the back nine.
There was then a photo finish for third place and after the tie breaker was enforced Pearse O’Neill playing off twenty five was third, Robert Barnes playing off thirteen fourth and Niall Teague had to settle for fifth place after all three carded scores of nett 67.

The Bundoran Meats Open Stableford competition took place at Bundoran Golf Club over the weekend attracting an entry of over 100 competitors
However it was Tom Lynch playing off twenty-three who took the prize with a super score of 47 points. Opening with 26 points, he then added a further 21 on the back nine where the highlights were birdies on the fifth and seventh holes, and pars on first, third, thirteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth holes.
In second place was Peter McGowan playing off seventeen also with a superb score of 46 points. Peter opened up his score with twenty-four points on the front nine prior to twenty-two points on back.
In third place was Eamon McGloin playing of sixteen with 42 points. Eamon’s nines were made up of twenty-one points on both. Fourth place went to John C. Cassidy playing off nineteen with 40 points. John had twenty points on the front nine and returned home also with twenty-one points.
Enda McFadden from South County Golf Club playing off three took fifth place with 38 points. Enda had 20 points on the front nine 18 points on the back nine.
Best gross of the weekend was Matthew Dunmore playing of two with 37 gross points.

On a beautiful sunny weekend in Bundoran, Nicky Corr came out on tops winning the P. McCaffrey & Sons Open stableford competition. Nicky playing of nine opened his score with 19 points on the front nine which included pars at one, two, five, six, seven, and nine. He pared the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and birdied the seventeenth hole giving him a great score of 22 points on the back nine.
In second place then came Padraig Daly playing of nineteen with 40 points. Padraig was very consistent accumulating 20 points on both nines. In third place was Aaron Robinson playing of seventeen (no longer though) with 39 points. Aaron opened with 16 points on the front nine and a fantastic score of 23 points on the back nine.
He was followed home in fourth place was Seamie Granaghan playing of thirteen with 38 points, Seamie had 17 points on the first nine and 21 points on the back nine. Fifth place was Pauric McShea playing of sixteen with 37 points on a break of tie. Best gross score was Matthew Dunmore with 34 gross points.

The Fred Daly team played Cliftonville Golf Club at the weekend and won five and half matches to one and half matches. The return match is in two weeks time in Cliftonville. Next Saturday the Ulster four ball team entertain Clones Golf Club. The match is a 2pm, best of luck to all players.

First place went to Niall Greenan playing of fourteen with a nett 67. Second place was Malachy McCaughey with a nett 68. Third place was visitor Enda McFadden with 69. Fourth and fifth place were decided on a break of tie with Rowan O’Connor best with a nett 70 from Tom Mulligan. The best gross went to Gareth Gunnigle with a 77.

The R.N.L.I. charity competition took place on Saturday 20th March at Bundoran Golf Club, This was the first stroke competition of the new season and first place went to Eamon McGloin playing off sixteen with a nett score of 71. Eamon completed his front nine in 45 strokes prior to completing his back nine in 42 blows. This gave Eamon a one stroke winning margin over his nearest challenger John Keon playing off sixteen who secured the runners up spot with a nett 72 on a break of tie from third placed, seventeen handicapper Aaron Robinson who also posted a nett 72.
The winner of the Alfred McMorrow Cup competition was John Cassidy playing off twenty with 37 points. John had 19 points on the front nine and 18 points on the back nine to win by one from second placed John Keon. Playing off sixteen, John carded 36 points, 17 on the front nine and 19 on the back nine. In third place was Fr. Munster also with 36 points. Fr. Munster had 18 points on the front nine with 18 on the back nine.

Despite the rumours that he might wait for the Masters, the Tiger returned early to winning ways at Bundoran Golf Club last weekend, where Mark (Tiger) Foley playing off eighteen, recorded an impressive winning score of nett 63.
Out in a blistering 40 strokes, Tiger required just one more for the homeward nine, the undoubted highlight of which was a spectacular birdie three on the difficult tenth hole.
In the final analysis he had two strokes to spare over second placed Fr. Munster playing off thirteen who posted a nett 65 on a break of tie, after he covered each nine in 39 blows. However he was pushed all the ay by third placed was Brendan McCauley who playing off twelve also with a nett 65, just losing out on second place on countback. For his part, Brendan opened with 38 strokes on the front nine and completed his back nine in just one more.
Fourth place then went to ten handicapper Nicky Corr with a nett 66 on a break of tie. Nicky opened his front nine with pars on the fourth, seventh and ninth holes sandwiching a birdie two on the third. His back nine was almost as consistent returning requiring 41 strokes. Fifth place went to Danny McLernon playing off fifteen also with a 66 nett, while best gross score came Michael Durcan playing off +2 who shot a scintillating gross 68.
On Saturday March 27th there is bingo in clubhouse with first game at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome. Next Sunday 28th March is the McMorrow Cup confined to members only. Please note check the web site on www.bundorangolfclub.com for special green fee offers.

The windy conditions on Saturday 27th Feb did not deter good scoring with Joe Keaney playing off sixteen shooting an excellent 63 nett. In second place also with a nett score of 63 was Michael Durcan playing off one. Michael Coleman playing off nineteen was third with a nett 66. Prizes for the weekend are vouchers, which are in the Pro Shop.
The stroke competition on Sunday saw the winner Brian Carr playing off nineteen with a nett 61. Second place went to Dan McGloin playing of nineteen with a nett 65. Pat Rooney took third place with a nett 66 and fourth place went to Nicky Corr playing off eleven with a nett 67 on a break of tie.
Next Sunday March 7th is the Captain’s Drive In and there is a shotgun start; teams of three scramble at 1.30pm. The sheet for names is available in the Pro Shop. The prize giving and refreshments will be immediately afterwards. Thanks to everyone who supported the night at the races on Friday night 26th Feb.

After a frost delayed start to competitive matters at Bundoran Golf Club last weekend, over fifty hardy competitors took to the fairways for the club stroke competition on Sunday, where John Larkin emerged as the deserved winner!
As in the past few weekends the overall result was closely contested but John playing off twenty two was in fine fettle to win by two after posting a nett 64 return.
However once again second, third and fourth places were decided on a break of tie, and after this, Niall Doherty playing off sixteen with his 66 had the best back nine from third placed Brendan McCauley playing off thirteen also with 66. Fourth place went to eleven handicapper Nicky Corr also with a nett 66. The winners all received vouchers as well as getting the handicaps reduced!

The first Open competition of the 2010 at Bundoran Golf Club took place on Saturday 30th January and while the frost kept the course closed for the early morning golfers, it opened mid morning and over thirty brave golfers took to the fairways.
Best score of the day was M. Lynch from Ballybofey & Stranolar Golf Club with 40 points. Second place was Danny McLernon from Bundoran with 37 points on a break of tie from Joe Keaney Blacklion Golf Club.

On Sunday the club competition was a stroke event where Jimmy Gallagher playing off twenty one had a great score of 65 nett just piping Luke Robinson playing off eight on the break of tie after he also fired a nett 65.
Third place went to Dodie Maguire playing of sixteen, two strokes adrift of the required mark with a nett 67. However all prize winners had their handicaps reduced along with receiving vouchers for prizes.
